Software
This section has been broken up into two parts. Core software and electives .
The Core software is software deemed to be suitable for all schools and will take up no more than 500MB on the CD.
The Electives Software is high quality software that may not be required by all schools. A selection of these could be chosen than meet the needs of a specific school to fill up the remaining content on the CD.

CD Cover
In an effort to make this as easy for schools as possible to produce their own CD it is planned to provide a template(s) here for schools to download.
This way they can print a generic label for their CD's if they do not wish to make their own. It would be a nice idea to produce these templates using FOSS software, but anything is OK.
If you produce a cover for the CD please call it "South Australian Schools Open CD" and use a state government image for the logo. Then Schools can either print "as is" or change to suit their own school.
Colour DECS logos in SVG format may be handy.
Templates
When creating your cover design, you may use the following templates provided below. To download these templates, use right-click, Save As...
Note: Once printed, the DVD style covers will be a tight fit, but they DO fit!
Inkscape, Illustrator (.svg)
Note: The guides will show when opened in Inkscape
- DVD Style Cover (blank, with guides for spine) - DVDCoverBlank.svg
- DVD Style Cover (blank A4, with corner print guide) - DVDCoverBlankA4Corners.svg
- DVD Style Cover (A4, with boxes outlined) - DVDCoverBlankA4.svg
Open Office
- There is a very good range of CD label templates for Open Office
Menu/UI
At this stage each school is doing their own thing for their for their menu. Some are using Flash, some are using HTML and some are using some JavaScript.
These menu's have the potential to be difficult to edit, especially if produced in Flash.
What would be ideal would be to have a menu system produced that is easily edited for the Elective items for the CD and allows a schools to easily add their name (and maybe logo) to the CD.
Simple instructions accompanying this would also be handy.
A PHP based website to generate custom FOSS CDs is being developed and has it's very own SourceForge page. The project page is here, the development preview is here and the code repository is here.
Templates
Ian has started a HTML based template, which you can view it here.
The template features the use of an iframe to display all the page content which means only 1 html file to edit for menu systems. Throughout the template, the HTML code has been highly commented on what should be edited, to make it easier for those new to html. The code of the whole template has also been validated by the W3C Markup Validation Service. There is only one validation error throughout the whole site, although its not really an error. The validation service ensures that the strict rules of HTML code are followed, so that it may be compatible with as many web browsers out there as possible.
You can download a 'beta' of the template here.
Documentation is around 95% complete, you can download the latest copy here.
Please let Ian know if you have any questions or comments, send him an email ian.rollings@goldengps.sa.edu.au.
